Future job: Bridge architect
It’s the year 2033. You are working for a company that designs bridges with the intent of supplying to poor countries. This already starts during the design phase: Project groups are challenged to proof their design works by building it with the simplest material possible.. Spaghetti.
Your company just received a budget to design a bridge that allows the inhabitants of an African group of villages to cross a steep ravine. Now, they still have to find their way around it. This means it costs a lot of time and they have to walk a lot of kilometres to reach the nearest city. When the bridge is built, this would decimate the time needed and allow for intensive trade. Your bridge has to allow for larger trucks to cross, enabling the inhabitants to earn their living and be more self-sufficient.
The ravine is 75 metres wide: The project group you belong to has been challenged to design and produce a scale model (1:100) that is able to cross the gap and will withstand the weight a truck can have.
